Sail 360: Piroutte

Another Classic maneuver from the mid 1980s involving fast feet work, sail control, balance, and good reflexes. This move probably migrated from the guys with the big big stick--the long boarders. Moderate winds are best and having the ability to Duck-Jibe, Sail-360, and Piroutte is helpful.

1) Enter a Broad-Reach, unhook, and get out of staps. Move feet forward.

2) Slide back hand in back of clew and release front hand so mast falls.

3) Cross hands and grab back of boom.

4) Release other hand, duck sail, and grab the other side of boom.

5) Grab other hand so you are sailing clew first with front hand toward mast.

6) Start Piroutte by letting go of back hand and turn to outside away from sail.

7) As sail swings reach your other hand around your back for the boom to boom grab.

8) Now release and turn around to standard sailing position.
