Fin 1st Water Start

I have been told I have way too much time on my hands to have learned all these water start variations -- I usually shrug off these comments because I believe we can never have too much time to enjoy what we love to do. I love being on the water, playing, experimenting, and windsurfing. So get off my cloud! We all should find an activity we are passionate about. So I spit on these party-poopers.   Anyway, falling in the water during windsurfing results in the sail and board positioned in a plethora of variations. Why spend all that time rearranging the equipment when the time would best be served learning creative ways to restart: like when the board is pointing the wrong way you can start fin first.

Steps

Tips for step 1)   While the board is facing fin first, position the sail on the water so you can water start.
Tips for step 2)  Sometimes the fin will be pointing down wind so one technique is to push on the nose with the upwind arm and pull the boom head into the wind with the other.
Tips for step 3)  Align your body in the waterstart position by floating the sail above you.
Tips for step 4)  Place the back foot between the nose of the board and the mast base.
Tips for step 5)  Extend the arms and water start as usual but guide the board with the back foot to keep the fin pointing in direction you are starting. The tail will want to round up and down wind.
Tips for step 6)  Now shift your weight onto the back foot.
Tips for step 7)  Place the front foot on the board so you are straddling the mast base.
Tips for step 8)  Guide the board with the clew hand.
Tips for step 9)   Guide the board so the fin goes down wind while sheeting out and keeping your body weight close to the mast.
Tips for step 10)  Step one foot to the other side of the board.
Tips for step 11)  Sheet in and step farther back on the board.
Tips for step 12)  Reposition the other foot behind the mast, trim and sail away.

Sometimes we fall in the water with the board facing the wrong way. You can water start fin first. The board will be really unstable once you have stood up because you are now standing on a saucer with no fin. The most difficult aspect will be rotating the board to the correct direction by steering and shuffling your feet to rotate the board.
