PunetaSpocks Quick Launch:
Fellow team rider Philp Soltysiak demonstrates how to perform a Puneta in this tutorial. Phil is the hottest North America freestyler today and watch him kill the PWA in the future. The Brazilian Kauli Seadi invented this move and I think thow word means Felatio.
I spent two months in Jeri Brazil trying to learn a variety of new moves, including a couple days on the Puneta. I did not make much progress but hopefully I can get this move figured out this summer in the gorge. Here are some excerpts from my notes...
Day #1 - I made a few attempts just to break the ice and get the move out of my head and out on the water. I tried to get comfortable getting to the switch stance position and jumping the board from switch. This felt really odd at first but it seems heading downwind facilitates initiating the move and I was able jump into a Vulcan but my body and boom were completely out of control. My buddy Matt Case (another great freestyler) said to really push the sail hand away once you jump and to dive the nose so there is a pivot point for the board. Clearly the Switch Stance Vulcan is possible by heading across the wind.
Day #2 - I tried a few more and got the board to slide a little though my hands were still psycho. I had a tendency to jump the board really high and hang on to the sail way to long; so I concentrated on a small hop followed by immediately letting go of the sail. This helped a great deal and my body seem more over the centerline of the board. Also grabbing the mast seems easier as well as pulling down on the boom during the jump.
PrerequisitesSwitch Stance sailing, a good spock, an Upwind 360 to finish the move, and a switch vulcan would be helpful. tips
